3.) Joseph Szczupak (Pawel1, Mateusz) was born 8 June 1866 in Turzany, Poland. He married Mary Borowicz 25 November 1891 in Parchanie, Poland. She was born 21 March 1874, the daughter of Franciszek Borowicz and Cordula Kamienska. The family lived in Parchanie, Poland where Joseph was a workman.

Joseph and his family emigrated 7 April 1907 from Hamburg, Germany aboard the vessel Pretoria arriving in New York City 24 April 1907. His wife, Mary, in poor health from the voyage, died 3 May 1907 in the hospital after arriving at Ellis Island. From there they went to Rochester, New York and lived for a short time with his sister and brother-in-law, Anna and Walenty Paprocki, at 145 St Stanislaus Street.

Joseph and Mary had five children:

vLeokadia Szczupak, b. 5 Jan 1901 in Parchanie, Poland; d. 10 Mar 1901 in Colonia Parchanska, buried 13 Mar 1901.

Joseph Szczupak & Josephine Adamski

(Rochester NY)

  On 20 January 1908 Joseph Szczupak married Josephine Adamski, the widow of Paul Adamski. She was born 28 February 1860 in Przybyslaw, Poland, the daughter of Lawrence Kwiatonski and Frances Kalinowska. Joseph declared his intention to be a citizen 9 July 1910 and 28 January 1913 be became a naturalized citizen.

The family attended St Stanislaus Kostka Church. Joseph and Josephine donated one of 45 stained glass windows to the church, The Resurrection located along the North Aisle.

Joseph was an optical worker. Joseph died 3 March 1946 at the age of 78 years and Josephine died 12 March 1946 only 9 days later. They are buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
