John Paprocki (Walenty1, Wawrzyniec), was born 5 August 1874 in Parchanie, Poland and baptized 9 August 1874 in the parish of Gora. He came to America in 1888 with his mother and three siblings. They departed from Bremen, Germany and Southampton, England on the ship Eider, arriving in New York City on 7 August 1888. They then traveled to Rochester, New York. John married Jadwiga Czapla 10 November 1901 in St. Stanislaus Church. She was born 15 October 1881 in Piechcinskie Huby, Poland and came to the United States in January 1882 with her parents Anton Czapla and Katharina Wojciak.
After they were married, they lived with Jadwiga's parents at 524 Hudson Avenue. About 1905 they went to live with John's parents at 145 St. Stanislaus Street and on 20 June 1912 they bought the house from his parents, Walenty and Anna Paprocki. John was a camera maker and finisher at 333 State Street for almost 40 years. He first started working for Frank A. Brownell, who was a manufacturer of cameras and photographic apparatus on State Street. Brownell manufactured the first roll holders for Eastman film and later expanded his operation to includte the making of cameras sold to the Eastman interests. He sold his business in 1902 to the Eastman Kodak Company, which became Camera Works. John was a member of Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 113. He died 22 March 1944 at the age of 69 years and is buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Jadwiga died 16 October 1963 at the age of 82 years. They had eight children: | ||
